Born in Syria, her love affair with art began in childhood, where she would spend countless hours sketching and experimenting with shapes and colors. Encouraged early on by her cousin, she honed her skills in drawing and mixed media—planting the seeds of what would later become her life’s purpose.

As an adult, Mahfouz emigrated to the United States, carrying her artistic dreams across continents. She pursued formal studies at Oakland Community College in Michigan, where she trained under the mentorship of Dr. Robert Piepenburg. She credits him with helping her refine her style, strengthen her artistic confidence, and discover the powerful voice within her work.
